The yellow onion is the most common onion and makes up a large fraction of word consumption. The Netherlands is the largest yellow onion exporter in the world. Dutch yellow onion export amounts to 1.000.000 tons per year.



The onion, which is also known as the bulb onion, common onion and garden onion, is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Allium cepa. It belongs to the garlic family (Alliaceae).


Onions have a strong flavor and smell, which decrease when heated.
